Who We Are

Fostering Love for Music

Located in CamasWashington, Perfect Harmony is a professional music program that provides lessons to those interested in a career in the music industry as well as casual music enthusiasts. Opened in 2014, Perfect Harmony was founded by Chris Merrill, former professional musician and award winning songwriter from Rockwood, Oregon, with the goal of establishing a music education program centered on the mantra: fostering a love of music will lead to a lifetime of creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking.

Perfect Harmony has a rich history of educating children and adults throughout our community. Over the past 3 years, despite covid closures, we’ve continued to grow our student population, added RockStar Academy band program for kids and adults, and developed a program specifically designed for students ages 3-8, Mini-Mozart KinderMusic. This past year, we had multiple students achieve all-state honors in choir, orchestra, and band, as well students being casted to leading and supporting roles in local plays and musicals. In years past, we’ve also had students participate on music programs such as The Voice and American Idol.

The hard work and dedication of our students is what makes our educational programs so successful. From halftime performances, to parades, concerts, contests, and the classroom, our students continue to excel in every aspect of the program. Our music programs and one-on-one lessons teach our students lifelong skills such as, discipline, strong work ethic, critical thinking skills, musicality, camaraderie, sportsmanship, respect, and self-confidence, to name a few. Perfect Harmony is highly respected and is crucial in building tomorrow’s leaders.

With an amazing ensemble of caring, passionate, and knowledgeable teachers, Perfect Harmony is the “perfect” place for your musical journey to begin, or continue.

Music has been a part of my life since childhood and became a more serious part and career path after learning the guitar. I earned a Bachelor of Music Therapy degree from Pacific University in 2015 and have been working as a board-certified music therapist with a specialty in songwriting and lyric analysis since, in addition to teaching music lessons. I’ve been in multiple bands in different genres, including: rock & blues, metal, alternative/emo rock and indie-folk. I love helping people learn to play multiple instruments and love to help them understand music and the power it has to transform our experience of living.
Jared Anderson Luthier Perfect Harmony Camas Music Lessons

Luthier Extraordinaire

Jared Anderson
Guitar • Bass • Ukulele • Mandolin • Banjo

I offer over ten years of experience in the music industry starting in sales and growing my expertise in guitar tech work, lutherie, woodworking and design. I find joy in sharing my knowledge and watching others reach their goals. I’ve designed and crafted custom built guitars from raw materials including hand winding pickups, routing bodies, hand carving neck shapes and all necessary fret work.

My interest in building and repairing guitars was sparked around 10 years ago after being lucky enough to have lunch, and a great conversation, with one of my heroes in the luthier world. Since then, I have worked with or on guitars, growing my own expertise in building and string instrument repair. I provide instrument setups, fretwork, wiring and other lutherie services. It brings me joy to share my knowledge about guitars, and work with musicians and their instruments to chase the tone of their dreams

Ian Engelsman is our super awesome band teacher, and also teaches drums, guitar, bass, and ukulele at Perfect Harmony Camas Music Lessons

RockStar Associate Band Director

Ian Engelsman
Guitar • Drums • Bass • Ukulele

First came the pots and pans. A 3-year-old Ian Engelsman would pull them out of the kitchen cupboard, bang and clang them for about half an hour several times a day. A couple years later, he turned to Ovaltine cans and paper plates that he wrapped in aluminum foil. He was also good at drumming on the back of the car seat to the rock music his father cranked up while driving. In the years since, Ian has poured his heart and soul into music, becoming an accomplished percussionist and guitarist, and earning his degree from Clark College. According to Ian, whether it’s playing jazz greats like Count Basie and Duke Ellington, orchestra and concert-band composers from classical to modern, or rock legends such as Pink Floyd and Metallica, interacting with students and having a good working relationship “helped me grow as a musician and a person.”

Bio coming soon…

My daughter thought that I needed some self improvement and signed me up with Perfect Harmony for guitar lessons. Being an older student can be intimidating, however, Chris at Perfect Harmony has made learning a lot of fun and very accessible. I would highly recommend Perfect Harmony for both the “more mature” student as well as younger students.
- Ken Hanson

“We love the positive instruction and fun that Chris gives our daughter! She has learned so much on the piano in a short period of time thanks to his ability to teach the fundamentals while making it a happy and engaging place to be! Our daughter looks forward to coming every week!”
- Sarah Howe

We were fortunate that Perfect Harmony had an opening for my pianist daughter. Chris’s approach is to build a firm foundation in basic music theory, which I really appreciate. My daughter will never be lost on a piece of music as she learns these great skills. The music studio is quiet and comfortable and there’s a soft couch for parents in the same room. Chris is easygoing, patient, and a good communicator to both student and parent.
